Week 6 - Screen Cast O Matic

This  is  my  Screen  Cast  O  Matic  Video.  I  am  a  big  Golf  Fan  so  I  decided  to  put  up  Rory  McIlroy's  Stats  on  the  PGA  Tour  from  2014. This weeks topic was based around the subject of Video Communication. This weeks lab was an E-Lab and therefore did not take place in Newstead. For this Lab, we had to create our own Screen Cast O Matic. A Screen cast O Matic is a video presenting a collection of data or information that you have acquired. I based my Screen Cast O Matic around the topic of golf and specifically Rory McIlroy's PGA tour stats from 2014. The reason I did this is because I am a big fan of golf and I want to show this via my Screen Cast O Matic. In order to create our own Screen Cast O Matic we were given a set of instructions via Blackboard. Overall from this E-Lab, I learned how to create and develop my own Screen Cast o Matic and how to show this information on a video. Here is also a range of instructions in which you can upload your video file to Youtube 5. Open a new tab and go to www.google.com. 6. Select the Record button to start recording your session. Note: The frame will turn into a solid red line. 7. Move your mouse in to the Google search box, type UCD and select Images from the left hand side / top of your screen. 8. Select Done on your recording tool. 9. Select Publish to YouTube. 10. Fill out the Publish to YouTube form on the right hand side of your screen and select Upload to YouTube e.g. Title – How to conduct a Google image search. (Don’t forget to add a description and tags!)

Week 5 Prezi

Continents of the World Week 5 was based around the topic of Presenting and designing effective content via social media. In this instance I began work on a Prezi Presentation. This weeks Lab was a face to face Lab once again taking place in Newstead. Shane began the class going through the steps into making a successful working Prezi. We were then given a set of instructions via blackboard so that we could create our own Prezi. My Prezi is linked above, its a very basic feature mapping out the continents of the world. You can use a Prezi to present a range of different ideas and thoughts you may have. Overall, from this class I learned how to create a Prezi and how to show social media effectively. Week 4 Social Bookmarking and Pinterest

This weeks class was based around the topic of Social Bookmarking and Pinterest. This weeks Lab was an E-Lab and did not take place in Newstead. For this this we were given a set of instructions on Blackboard about how to complete the E-Lab. In order to complete this E-Lab, we had to set up our own Pinterest account as well as our own Diigo account. Pinterest and Diigo are very handy tools to use as they have to ability to save pages and files which you find interesting. It keeps you organized and on top of everything. It is also a great way for students to keep relevant pages for study. Since I opened my Pinterest and Diigo accounts I have already kept 10 pages bookmarked which are relevant to my studies in University. As I continue my studies in University, I will continue to use Pinterest and Diigo as it will keep me organised to continue my studies. Week 3 MIT Inventor Part 2

This week was the second of our face to face tutorials in Newstead for this module. This weeks class was very similar to last weeks class. It was again based around building our own App via the MIT App Inventor. Again at the beginning of the class, Shane went through the steps on how to create your own App. Then, again via Blackboard we were given a set of instructions to build an App similar to the HelloPurr one from the week before. The App we made this week was called the Magic 8 Ball. Again it had some distinctive features including a picture of an 8 ball and the sound of an 8 ball when you pocket it in a game of pool or snooker. From this tutorial, I recapped on my learning of how to use the MIT App Inventor and all the distinctive features that go along with creating your own App. These are the main points which I took from the second face to face tutorial. Week 2 MIT Inventor Part 1

This week we began learning how to use the MIT App Inventor. This was in order to help us build an App known as HelloPurr. This week was also our first face to face tutorial with Shane. At the beginning of the class he showed us how to use the MIT App Inventor. Then via Blackboard we were given a set of instructions and we began to build our own HelloPurr App. The HelloPurr App had many features including a Picture of a Kitty on the front of the App as well as a Kitty sound to help back up the picture. From this face to face Tutorial I learned how to create my own App and all the features that go along with making your own App. This will be beneficial in my overall understanding of the Module. Week 1 Introduction to Social media

The first week of the semester, I was introduced to a completely new topic on the topic of Information Studies. This topic is known as Social Computing and Media. Our Module Co-Ordinator, Shane McLoughlin introduced the module to us with the first of 12 lectures titled "The World of Social Computing". This topic refers to all types of Social Computing and Media in today's world, Everything from Social Media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr to being able to decrypt different types of Data sets. We also discussed as a class group how to solve and social media problems we may face should they arise. The three main factors into solving a social media problem are as follows,to interact with the problems you may have to find a solution, to be able to work as part of a team to aquire information to deal with problems and to collaberate with other people to help evaluate and manage information. These are some of the skills I learned during the first week of Social Computing and Media.
