Week 11 Exam

This week there was no Elab/Face to face lab and instead we sat an online exam during this time. The exam was based on everything we had covered in the module up until this point.

Week 10 Guest Speaker

This week we had a guest speaker in to talk to us about Social Computing and Media. There was no assigned ELab/Face to face lab for this week.

Week 9 Social Computing and Business

This week there was no E-Lab/Face to Face lab and instead we had to catch up on any work we had missed out on.

Week 8 Flickr

We had no face to face lab this week and instead it was an E-Lab. This week we had to display our own set of pictures on a flickr account. The instructions via blackboard asked us to make a flickr account. Flickr is a photo sharing social media site where people can share their photos. It is a fun way to show people pictures of things they have never seen before like famous buildings or monuments for example. Above is the link to the range of photos I uploaded on to my flickr account. They show a few of the old buildings from Berlin. Below is the link to which you can set up your own flickr account. All you have to do is follow the instructions and you will then be able to upload your own photos. You also need to set up a Yahoo Account. 1. Create a Yahoo account if you don’t already have one. 2. Next, sign in to Flickr using your Yahoo account: 3. Choose some photos from your desktop to upload, or alternatively do an ‘Advanced Image Search’ using Google, and select, ‘free to use or share’ beside the, ‘Usage Rights’ option and download some photos to your desktop.

Week 7 Mash Up

Heritage Oak Trees of Ireland This weeks Topic was based around combining social media to create new services. These services are known as Mash-Ups. This weeks lab was a face to face lab which took place in Newstead once again. At the beginning of the class, Shane once again went through the steps into creating your own Mash-Up. Today, I did an exercise on how to create my own Mash Up. I was given instructions via a PDF File on how to create the Mash Up. It is Titled "Heritage Oak Trees of Ireland". It is a map showing all the different places in Ireland where these places are located. This is the first Mash Up I have created. Below is the link to the Mash Up Website. Week 6 - Screen Cast O Matic

This  is  my  Screen  Cast  O  Matic  Video.  I  am  a  big  Golf  Fan  so  I  decided  to  put  up  Rory  McIlroy's  Stats  on  the  PGA  Tour  from  2014. This weeks topic was based around the subject of Video Communication. This weeks lab was an E-Lab and therefore did not take place in Newstead. For this Lab, we had to create our own Screen Cast O Matic. A Screen cast O Matic is a video presenting a collection of data or information that you have acquired. I based my Screen Cast O Matic around the topic of golf and specifically Rory McIlroy's PGA tour stats from 2014. The reason I did this is because I am a big fan of golf and I want to show this via my Screen Cast O Matic. In order to create our own Screen Cast O Matic we were given a set of instructions via Blackboard. Overall from this E-Lab, I learned how to create and develop my own Screen Cast o Matic and how to show this information on a video. Below is the link to the Screen Cast O matic website which gives you details on how to develop your own video. http://www.screencast-o-matic.com. Here is also a range of instructions in which you can upload your video file to Youtube 5. Open a new tab and go to www.google.com. 6. Select the Record button to start recording your session. Note: The frame will turn into a solid red line. 7. Move your mouse in to the Google search box, type UCD and select Images from the left hand side / top of your screen. 8. Select Done on your recording tool. 9. Select Publish to YouTube. 10. Fill out the Publish to YouTube form on the right hand side of your screen and select Upload to YouTube e.g. Title – How to conduct a Google image search. (Don’t forget to add a description and tags!)
